Abstract:  

1) What is vulnerability management? 
a) difference - pentest vs vulnerability scan vs security test 
b) why you need each one - what do they do for you 
c) how does vulnerability scanning and vulnerability management support - Change Management, Life-cycle management, Secure configuration validation, policy enforcement, PATCH MANAGEMENT!!!! 
2) How do vulnerability scanners work 
a) over all how do they work - remote registry, scanning system *.ini, *.dll, installed apps, security settings 
b) examples of different vulnerability scanners - Talk about Qualys, Nessus, Beyond Trust eEye - Retina 
c) talk about enterprise vulnerability scanner centralized manager with deployed agents vs local scanner 
3) what is OVAL and why do you care 
4) How to properly scan 
a) important things to know 
b) considerations for scanning - network size, like technologies 
c) troubleshooting scanning - putting a stake in the false positive 
5) reporting - why do we care 
a) basic reporting 
b) the value in reporting 
6) QA - crowd ask questions - I make up answers
